Robert Kraft had to make the difficult decision of whether to keep Jakobi Meyers or release him. Eventually, the New England Patriots veteran owner let the wide receiver leave. Meyers then signed a three-year, $33 million contract with $16 million guaranteed.
The latest episode of The Shop alongside Davante Adams featured Kraft. The owner said he regretted the departure of Meyers. This is what Kraft said:

Robert Kraft was responding to Adams, revealing that he learned a lot from Meyers during their first season together. The six-time Pro Bowler claimed Meyers is the best-kept secret in the NFL. This is what he said:
He's [Meyers] not the fastest guy in the world, so he's really good at changing; he can move within his routes and change pace while he's running full speed. Probably one of the best that I've seen so far.Davante Adams via The Shop
The New England Patriots had their worst season in recent times in the 2023/24 reason. Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe failed to connect with any wide receivers on the team. It leads one to believe that Meyers could have turned things around. Kraft’s words also echo such a feeling.
Why did Jakobi Meyers leave the New England Patriots?
The 27-year-old was an undrafted free agent when the New England Patriots signed him in 2019. He had a rough rookie year and only started one game. Since then, Meyers became a frequent name on the first-team list in his second season. He topped the Patriots receiver chart for three consecutive seasons (2020–2022).
In March 2022, the Patriots placed a second-round restricted free-agent tender on Meyers. He stayed for one year, and the following season, he was due a new contract. Later signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. This is what Meyers said about the whole ordeal on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Felger & Mazz:
They just wouldn’t budge. At the end of the day, Bill Belichick didn’t want to move. And I respect it. It’s his job to do what’s best for his team.Jakobi Meyers via The Sports Hub
Meyers jumped from one sinking ship to another, but his output did not drop. Instead, he recorded a career-high of 8 touchdowns from 71 receptions for 807 yards. He enjoyed the time spent partnering with Adams. However, when asked if he would have stayed in Boston after receiving his expected salary, Meyers nodded.
