On Wednesday, the New England Patriots parted ways with their veteran head coach, Bill Belichick, following a 24-year-long tenure. And now, a few days after that news, new reports reveal tensions between Belichick and owner Robert Kraft, even since the head coach let Tom Brady walk away in free agency.
According to ESPN’s new report, an anonymous source has now revealed the growing tensions between the Pats owner and the decorated head coach that eventually led to a split in their partnership. According to the source, Robert Kraft would put down his head coach at every opportunity.
Furthermore, when Brady won the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in February 2021, both Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft reportedly sent private messages to the quarterback, wishing him on his seventh ring.
However, Kraft was furious with Belichick since the head coach said Brady couldn’t play anymore while letting him leave in the 2020 free agency.
Bill had told me he couldn’t play anymore. And then he goes out and wins the f–king Super Bowl.Robert Kraft said according to ESPN
After letting Brady walk away in free agency, the Bill Belichick-led Patriots had a record of 29-38 in four years and failed to win even one postseason game. They also couldn’t win the AFC East division once in those four seasons. On the other hand, Brady went on to win a Super Bowl ring, an NFC Conference title, and multiple NFC South division titles with the Buccaneers.
As Tom Brady kept winning with the Bucs and the Patriots kept losing, pressure mounted on Belichick, and Kraft eventually had to move on from the 71-year-old head coach.
Bill Belichick seems satisfied with his run with Robert Kraft in New England
The Patriots and Bill Belichick closed the curtains on their 24-year-long partnership following a stretch of poor outings in the last few years. On Thursday, Belichick addressed the media and opened up about his time in New England.
For me, this is a day of gratitude and celebration. We had a vision of building a winner, building a championship football team here. And it’s exceeded my wildest dreams and expectations. The amount of success we were able to achieve together through a lot of hard work and the contributions of so many people.Bill Belichick said in Thursday’s press conference
Anyhow, it’s time for a new era for the Patriots. After moving on from Belichick, the Patriots promoted their inside linebackers coach, Jerod Mayo, as their new head coach. Mayo will look to bring back the New England-based football team to their glory days.
