With everything that happened last season, the pressure on the entire team of the New York Jets seems justified. However, Robert Saleh admitted there’s some added pressure on him given his position as head coach.
The Jets are in desperate need of a new strategy and regime entering the 2024 NFL season as their entire offense collapsed last season the moment that Aaron Rodgers was benched following his torn ACL injury. This puts a lot of pressure on the shoulders of the coaching staff, especially head coach Saleh, who is already facing heat.
While talking to the reporters on Monday, Saleh was asked to comment on whether a coach in his fourth year ‘has’ to make the playoffs, given that 2024 will be Saleh’s fourth year as the head coach.
I guess you can say that. You get so many opportunities but like I said, the pressure to win is always there in the NFL. You always try to do…try to achieve what you set out to achieve. And it has been said before and I’ll say it again, there’s only one team happy at the end of the year. That’s the team that holds the trophy.Replied the Jets head coach
For nearly a decade, the Jets have hardly seen a winning season, given their record of eight straight losing seasons. Filled with anger and frustration over last season’s bizarre performance, owner Woody Johnson even came close to issuing a mandate for either the playoffs or significant changes.
Jets’ low-key offseason with high hopes for the future
With Rodgers leading the offseason, the Jets fancied themselves as Super Bowl contenders last season. But they ended up finishing 7-10 and were also the first team to be eliminated from the playoff race.
Head coach Saleh knows he can’t afford to make any more mistakes next season, but he isn’t making a big deal out of the whole situation.
There's always pressure to win. Obviously, we're all disappointed with the way things worked out a year ago, but I don't think anyone's confidence is shook.Said Saleh while downplaying the likely scenario of him getting on to the hot seat if they lose again.
Unlike last year, the Jets have kept their offseason moves under the radar this year. They have made subtle signings of big names like Mike Williams and Tyron Smith.
