Robert Saleh looked visually upset with the game-changing penalty by the officials against them last night. But the New York Jets head coach refused to comment on that.
They were only behind by three points in the fourth quarter. With 3:41 minutes left on the clock, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw a pass intended for receiver Marquez Valdes Scantling. Jets running back Michael Carter thought he had caught Mahomes’ third interception of the night until a yellow flag was thrown onto the pitch. According to referee Alex Kemp, cornerback Sauce Gardner had fouled the Chiefs playmaker during the buildup.
Robert Saleh was furious on the touchline, seeing the play being negated. The match officials flagged him for unsportsmanlike conduct for his constant denial of the judgment. He had every right to be angry. They had finally managed to claw back from a 17-0 deficit to make it 20-20. But that particular call changed the dugout’s mood completely.
Neither Robert Saleh nor Sauce Gardner were happy with the decision
The Chiefs’ game was crucial for the Jets. Not only did they want to stop the losing streak, but they also wanted to prove that they could play without Aaron Rodgers. By all means, it was make or break for quarterback Zach Wilson. Fortunately, there were signs that the third-year signal caller was finally breaking his shackles. But that fourth-quarter penalty flag turned the tide of their revival in the game.

During the post-match press conference, Robert Saleh refused to comment on the decision. “I’m not gonna comment on that,” the 44-year-old coach said. By the sound of his voice, he was disappointed with the end result.
But Sauce Gardner was very vocal. “The receiver ran into me, and there was a collision,” he told the media after the game. “Pat [Mahomes] threw the ball outside the receiver; MC was there; he made the play; then the ref threw the flag. The same thing was happening all game, and they threw no flags.”
There were still a few minutes left to salvage something. However, the Jets failed to capitalize later on. As if the decision had left them in a daze.
Shortly after, Zach Wilson fumbled from a snap and gave the possession away. Mahomes ran down the clock in 15 plays, rushing close to the Jets 10-yard line. Wilson blamed himself for the loss, but Saleh claimed that the 24-year-old had a good game.
