Football fans want answers on how long NFL commissioner Rodger Goodell will continue to defend the officiating. Goodell has gone to lengths to defend the very average referee during NFL games.
During Monday’s Super Bowl LVIII media day, Goodell once again reiterated how impressed he was with the referees. Although he did stress that it does need scrutiny from time to time and that they are only humans, mistakes are part of the game.

That's part of our popularity... You all do such a great job that you see more than you could ever see in officiating. The game is faster. I think our officials do a great job. They are superior. But at the end of the day, no one is perfect.Roger Goodell said
We have to continue to try to get better. Use technology wherever we can to try to improve their performance.Goodell concluded.
Football fans are angry with Rodger Goodell for defending the referees
The 64-year-old isn’t wrong in saying that referees are also humans, and humans tend to make mistakes. Not only that, but the game has indeed become faster compared to 20 or 30 years ago.

However, as time progressed, technology started to play a crucial role in officiating, which should make things easier and reduce the chance of making a lot of wrong calls. Yet in almost every game, there would be a decision that soured the mood.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
Whether the officiating improves in the future or not, the NFL keeps the referees under scanner before, during, and after a season. Former Vice President of Officiating (2013–17) Dean Blandino revealed that it’s necessary to keep an eye on them because, on occasion, they do get approached by shady individuals with ill intentions.
According to Blandino, the league sends a security representative who goes door-to-door with the neighbors of the referees to get a sense of what sort of person they are. As a result, it has created a lot of pressure on the officials.
It’s created more scrutiny. I think it’s created more pressure, and that’s not going to change but will only increase as we move forward.Blandino said.
The majority of these measures are taken to prevent betting and gambling. Rodger Goodell and the NFL authority do not wish to repeat former NBA official Tim Donaghy’s scandal. During the final two seasons of his tenure, Donaghy allegedly bet on games that he officiated.
