NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has penned an open letter to fans expressing his gratitude for their unity and support through the horrific injury of Damar Hamlin.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell penned an open letter to fans across the league in which he touched on the situation surrounding Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin. The athlete has made incredible progress since his scary injury in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, however, to the relief of fans and his teammates, Hamlin is now responsive and is able to communicate with his friends and family.

Roger Goodell in this letter appreciates the “inspiring progress” made by Damar Hamlin and loved to see how fans from all teams across the league joined hands and rallied together while praying for Hamlin’s recovery. He stated that Damar’s progress has “lifted the spirits of the entire NFL and football fans across the country.”

The Bills organization could not have been happier as Damar surprised them all with a video call via FaceTime. He is currently undergoing treatment at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is now off ventilator support. “While his recovery is just the beginning, we thank the NFL medical personnel and the medical staffs from both teams whose emergency action quite likely saved his life.”

The Commissioner in the story went on to add, “We are also grateful to the professionals at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center who tended to Damar and continue to oversee his care.”

Roger Goodell thanked the first responders who ensured Damar Hamlin got the timely treatment he needed:

The Commissioner was heartwarmed by what he saw from fans after this incident, “Seeing the entire NFL family- teams, players, coaches, and fans like you- band together was yet another reminder that football is family: human, loving, and resilient.” As a mark of respect, all 32 teams will don T-shirts with the words “Love for Damar” while warming up during the weekend.

Commissioner Goodell goes on to add that he is optimistic and “deeply hopeful,” that Hamlin will be there to watch his teammates close out the regular season as they take on the New England Patriots. Finally, he expressed his gratitude to the first responders on site. “We are grateful for and humbled by all who played a role as he continues on his road to recovery.”

The Buffalo Bills‘ medical staff had a big role to play in ensuring Hamlin was administered the adequate amount of first aid. The safety’s doctors Dr. Timothy Pritts and Dr. William Knight IV praised the medical staff for their immediate action following his cardiac arrest. The Bills will look to close out the season with a dub as they face off against the Patriots. The team is sure to come out all guns blazing as they will not just be doing it for themselves, they will be doing this for number 3.
