Football is back! On Thursday, the Cleveland Browns successfully defeated the New York Jets in the NFL’s annual Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. Ahead of the game, the Browns’ controversial QB Deshaun Watson received a warm greeting from Commissioner Roger Goodell. However, Goodell welcoming Watson has created a storm on social media.
The former Pro Bowl QB Watson is one of the most polarizing figures in the NFL world. He was accused of sexual assault by more than 20 women in the last few years. The details of those allegations have been disturbing. However, Watson wasn’t criminally charged in any of those allegations. He also settled nearly two dozen civil lawsuits outside of the courts.
He is still facing a lawsuit regarding sexual assault according to reports. Furthermore, he also received an 11-game ban from the league that he served during the starting phase of the 2022 regular season. Watson is now focused on training for the upcoming NFL season. Amidst this, he met with NFL Commissioner Goodell ahead of the Browns’ pre-season opener against the Jets on Thursday.
Watson and Goodell had a brief chat where both of them could be seen smiling and joking around. Additionally, Goodell also gave a hug to Watson in a short video shared by the NFL reporter Hayden Grove on the social media platform X. The friendly interaction between the Browns QB and Goodell is now doing rounds on social media accumulating more than a million views within 24 hours.

Social media rips Roger Goodell over his Deshaun Watson interaction
NFL fans on social media did not like Commissioner Roger Goodell joking and laughing with the Browns QB Deshaun Watson, who was accused of sexual assault by more than 20 different women. Check out some of the reactions below!
On the sporting side of things, Watson is looking forward to playing his first full season since 2020. He infamously sat down the entire 2021 season asking for a trade from the Houston Texans. In 2022, he missed 11 games as he was suspended by the league over sexual assault allegations.
After sitting out the entire 2021 season, Watson was acquired by the Browns in the 2022 off-season in a blockbuster trade. Additionally, he also signed a massive 5-year fully guaranteed deal worth up to $230 million.
The Browns are expecting Watson to deliver a Super Bowl soon. Moreover, they have added some good talent around the quarterback to help him achieve that goal soon. If Watson can stay healthy, the Browns have a shot at lifting the Lombardi Trophy in the upcoming season.
