The Washinton Commanders have had a very poor season so far. Winning just four games in 16 matches has not served the purpose of the team well. In this present context, the exit of the veteran head coach Ron Rivera is almost a possibility. There are high speculations that the HC can finish his stint at the Washington Commanders with the team’s Sunday encounter against the Dallas Cowboys.

Amid this situation, the HC remained diplomatic. He seemed a bit skeptical when he was asked about his future on the team. Attending the press conference and answering the questions of the press, the head coach said:

Well, I’d like to think we’re in a better place. That’s] probably a fairer way to say it. I most certainly do appreciate my time here, and we’ll see what happens. And again, we’ll focus in on what’s coming first on Sunday, and that’s getting ready for Dallas.

This is the fourth season of Ron Rivera as a head coach for the Washington Commanders. He does not have an impressive record as the head coach. Compared to his 26 total wins, the HC has registered 39 losses with a tie in his tally. In his overall 13 years, the HC has won 102 games and lost another 102 with just two games without a result.

Before the Commanders, the HC was part of Carolina Panthers where he had coached for nearly 9 years. He led his team to playoffs five times but has failed to register a single playoff game since 2015. In Super Bowl 50, the Panthers led by the HC had a face-off against the Broncos. They lost the SB game even after taking a 15-1 lead.

Ron Rivera’s team suffered due to defensive inabilities

Ahead of the 2023-24 season a lot of questions were floated regarding the abilities of Sam Howell, the regular quarterback of the Commanders’ team. His abilities came under question.

However, with the start of the regular season, it was perceived that Howell was not the problem. Howell had a mixed season with multiple injuries taking place. Nevertheless, the team suffered due to their defensive problems. The problems went so far that the defensive coordinator had to be fired after their blowout 45-10 loss against the Dallas Cowboys.

Nonetheless, sacking the DC did not do much good for the Commanders as the team struggled with its bad defense. If Rivera gets another season, he needs to solve this problem.
