It did not take long for Jalen Carter to make an impact on the field against the Baltimore Ravens. The rookie defensive tackle showed why the Philadelphia Eagles drafted him as their first-round pick.
As expected, there were several first-team players absent during the game. This means regulars such as Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, and DeVonta Smith sat on the sidelines as the reserves and rookies played ball.
In the third quarter of the game, Carter blew past his former Georgia University teammate, Ben Cleveland. Then he clobbered into Ravens quarterback Josh Johnson, grabbing him by his legs as he somehow managed to throw the ball out of bounds.
A 6-foot-314-pound giant moving like an eagle was a sight to behold. When asked about how he felt about his debut, he said, “Getting to the quarterback was pretty awesome. I plan on doing that more.”
Social Media left baffled by Jalen Carter’s first Snap as a Philadelphia Eagles Player
Fans throughout the country tuned in to watch the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Baltimore Ravens pre-season game. While they were hoping for some fireworks to go off despite the match being friendly, they were not expecting Jalen Carter to pull off his first snap in such a fashion.
The Baltimore Ravens were facing 3rd-and-10 from their 29 when Jalen Carter came on for the Eagles. He lined up beside the OLBs, and upon hearing the whistle, he charged at Josh Johnson and made his first snap. It was a moment to savor for the new kid on the block as he read the Ravens’ backup center like a book.
“I knew it was going to be a pass,” Jalen Carter revealed, as per the Philadelphia Inquirer. His limited time on the field meant he couldn’t screw up the opportunity that presented itself.
“It’s just a moment I’ve always been ready for,” he said. “I got here, and I’m ready to play.” That should be music to head coach Nick Sirianni‘s ears as he showered praise on his rookie. “He’s working hard every day,” Sirianni said. “He’s very talented and had some really nice plays.”
Furthermore, Jalen Carter has help in the Eagles camp, which is filled with former Georgia players. Second-year players Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean will ease their college alumni’s transition to the NFL.
Thankfully for Carter, he did not face the “Welcome to the NFL” cliche. Besides him, there were starts for outside linebacker Nolan Smith. He too had a solid game, with a couple of rushes and a hit on the Ravens quarterback. Moreover, safety Sydney Brown charged like a mad bull as he completed nine solo tackles.
Despite the heroics of the Eagles’ second-string side, they lost the match by one point (20-19). Up next, they will face the Cleveland Browns on August 18.
