Russell Wilson finds himself in the midst of controversy even in the off-season. The quarterback for the Denver Broncos reportedly wanted his former Head Coach Pete Carroll fired along with the general manager of the Seattle Seahawks John Schneider. This was when Wilson was still on the roster of the Seahawks. However, the front office and the ownership did not oblige and give in to his demands and as a result, fans know how things played out eventually.

Russell Wilson left the Seattle Seahawks, the team that had drafted him and the team for which he had played for a decade to go to the Denver Broncos. A report courtesy of The Athletic states that Wilson wanted his former HC and GM gone. The reason being he felt that Pete and John were obstacles in his path to attempting to win more Super Bowls.

Here’s where things get interesting. Wilson wanted the Seahawks to get Sean Payton, the former HC of the New Orleans Saints, as he felt he had a better shot to win the title with him as the decision maker. The report states that the QB requested this in February 2022 and just days after his request, the front office took a call to trade him to the Broncos. The Seahawks did not want to part ways with Pete Carroll or John Schneider. Following the emergence of this report, Russell Wilson himself responded with a tweet addressing the situation.

It was not surprising to see that once this news broke out; it garnered a lot of attention, especially considering the dismal season that Russell Wilson has had this year. Given the gravity of the situation, Russell Wilson found it appropriate to address the situation himself and clear the air. Here’s what the quarterback had to say regarding the recent reports.

“I love Pete (Carroll) and he was a father figure to me and John (Schneider) believed in me and drafted me as well. I never wanted them fired. All any of us wanted was to win. I’ll always have respect for them and love for Seattle.” He dismisses the allegations and states that he has the utmost respect for Pete Carroll. He just called the man a father figure, and rightfully so. After all, he has been coaching Wilson since he got to the league in 2012.

Coming to John Schneider, Wilson believed he shared the same vision as him, of wanting to win and go to the Super Bowl. He dismissed having any ill intentions toward them or requesting them to be fired from their roles. The quarterback has spent a lot of years in Seattle. That team put him on the map and made him a household name. He won a Super Bowl with that team and has countless memories attached to the organization. Wilson clarifies that he cherishes the time he spent there and will continue to love the city of Seattle.

The report that came out was sourced from league sources who spoke anonymously. So one cannot completely dismiss their claims. However, Russell Wilson took it upon himself to set the record straight.
