Former NFL safety and current analyst Ryan Clark recently commented on Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s body on ESPN’s show NFL Live. What started as joke from Clark about Tua not spending enough time in the gym, quickly turned into a fat-shaming jibe. Clark suggested that Tua looked like a girl working in Onyx, which is a strip club in Atlanta. Talk about disrespect!
Clark, however, seems to have understood the gravity of the situation and has apologized to Tua and his family. He created a video and posted it on his Twitter account. In the video, Clark apologized to Tua and his family and said he made a bad joke. “When I decided to do TV I had 2 main priorities,” Clark said in that video “1. Respect all NFL players, coaches, executives and staff members. 2. Earn and keep the respect of those very same people. Those priorities are important to me, and when I miss that mark, I have to hold myself accountable. I do my best to be honest when executing my job as well as being honest when I fall short. I fell short on Monday and for that, I genuinely apologize.”
Tua was asked about Clark’s comments in a recent press conference. He suggested that Clark should ”keep my name out of his mouth”. Clark explained himself in the video and concluded by saying, “To Tua Tagovailoa and his family, I deeply apologize.”
Clark’s comments upset a lot of Dolphins fans as well, as there were calls to fire him from ESPN as an analyst. Tagovailoa and the Dolphins are preparing for their season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers and Clark’s comments came at a bad time for them. The hope is everyone moves on from this incident and focuses on the upcoming NFL season.
