The ESPN Get Up crew was discussing Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews‘ season-ending ankle injury during the Thursday night clash against the Cincinnati Bengals. When Stephen A. Smith is the mediator, there’s bound to be some juicy takes. It did not disappoint, as Bart Scott claimed that the tackle on Andrews was “dirty play.”

Fellow analyst Ryan Clark, who joined in via FaceTime, could be seen lowering his head as Scott explained his reasoning for the assertion. Smith tried hard not to inject his own thoughts, but the setting was set for an argument.

To me, this is a dirty tactic and a dirty style of tackling.
Scott aiming his words at Bengals Logan Wilson.

It was Wilson’s tackle that got the better of Andrews. Clark couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Really?” he chimed in.

Absolutely. When you grab from the back and jump, there’s nowhere for you to land. They outlawed this from Roy Williams [former Dallas Cowboys safety]. And for the competition committee, this is going to be exhibit one.

Clark was clearly not impressed with his colleagues’ take on the matter.

How do you get people on the ground then, [Bart]? If I’m chasing a guy, it's my only chance to grab his waist.

Scott advised him to run his feet. Judging by the trajectory of the argument, Clark did not agree once more.

You can’t run your feet when he’s running away from you.

He claimed that if a defender has to do that, then he would either be faster than the runner or hope he topples over.

Bart Scott agreed with Ryan Clark that the tackle wasn’t intentional

The Ravens were leading by 7 points as the second quarter began. Andrews received a pass from quarterback Lamar Jackson and dodged a couple of players. However, he wasn’t aware Wilson was flying in.

At first glance, the tackle did seem a bit rash, and Andrews had to hobble off. This wasn’t the first hit Wilson had during the game. Just a few minutes later, he would pull off a similar tackle on Jackson. The 26-year-old was temporarily out of commission but soon rejoined the game.

Scott brought up this dilemma as well, but once again, Clark defended the tackle. Eventually, his words reached their destination.

OK, maybe this wasn’t intentional.

Jackson went on to complete 16 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns as the Baltimore Ravens won their eighth game of the season. They now sit at the top of the AFC North and, more than likely will win the division as well.
