Seems like the era of Ryan Tannehill as a starting quarterback has come to an end, as rookie Will Levis has been named the starting quarterback for the remaining season, last Tuesday. Tennessee Titans, standing with a record of 3-5 as Week 10 approached, benched Tannehill and ought to see what rookie Levis has to give in the upcoming games.
However, this change in the team isn’t new to them, as it was foreseen and would likely have happened if the Titans had a poor start this season. But in the past two games seeing no future with QB Tannehill, they decided to go with Levis.
This season, Tannehill managed to log a 2-4 with just one touchdown thrown and six interceptions. He averaged just 188 yards per game, which is extremely nasty for a quarterback. After being the starting QB for four years at Titans, the veteran expresses his emotions on being benched for the rest of the season.
The quarterback said:
It is hard. I have never been in this situation before. So, it hits hard, and it's never a situation that anyone wants to be in. But it's the situation that I'm in, and I have to walk through it.
Meanwhile, he also appreciated the rookie quarterback who is all set to take over him. Tannehill praised Levis’ performance on a field that has brought only good for the team and moving forward if he has any questions, Levis can always come to him.
After being told a day before the announcement by coach Mike Vrabel, Tannehill has been preparing himself to become a backup and keep his emotions intact. The next step in the veteran’s course of career will be aiming to become a pro.
Is Will Levis the right decision for the Titans?
As the starting quarterback of the Titans, Tannehill is a veteran and has obviously struggled for so long, the team seemed to have made the right choice going with rookie Will Levis. The rookie has proved his competency in the games when starting QB Tannehill was out due to his ankle injury.
As it’s not reasonable to let Tannehill take the lead after seeing the poor performance of the Titans under him, Levis has fairly good chances to take over and bring victories for them, moving forward. And for experience, Tannehill is there to guide him if required.
The Titans have some pretty notable games with rookie Levis as starting, the reason for this could be because the teams across the NFL don’t have enough film on him. But now he officially became the starting QB, soon they will have and then his actual competency will be proved.
