Sam Darnold is looking to compete for the San Francisco 49ers quarterback spot, but until recently, he had his hands full while staying at teammate George Kittle‘s pool house. Darnold claims that he felt the presence of something during his brief stay.

The USC graduate made an appearance on the latest episode of Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take’ and spoke about his bizarre experience at Kittle’s Place. The host of the show pressed Darnold about moving out of the place and finding a new neighborhood to crash in. Darnold claimed that the place felt very creepy and haunted.

There was something else in the room,” said Darnold, continuing, “It was super weird. felt like there was something holding on to me.” He believes there was something in the room, as he kept getting chills talking about it.

PFT’s Big Cat jokingly mentioned it could be the “Hat Man,” but the former New York Jets player denied it. “I know people had certain experiences in old Civil War places where there is now, like, a hotel.”

Darnold certainly seemed spooked by his stay at the Kittle household. He moved in with them after the Carolina Panthers decided to part ways with him this offseason. After losing his spot to Baker Mayfield due to injury, he only made six overall appearances in 2022.

Trey Lance was named the starting quarterback for the Panthers over Jimmy Garoppolo last year. But both of them suffered injuries that decommissioned them. Up stepped rookie Brock Purdy, who performed amicably the rest of the season.

Fast forward to 2023, Garoppolo has left, and Lance has yet to fully recover. Even Purdy has been battling a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament, which he received against the Eagles in the championship game. So the Panthers had to go out and buy an urgent replacement. They signed Sam Darnold to a one-year contract in March.

While Purdy is in rehab and expected to be the starter in the upcoming season, the backup spot is up for grabs. Darnold is aware he will have tough competition, as Lance already knows Kyle Shanahans system. But he is optimistic after getting positive reviews during the OTAs.

The 26-year-old Darnold spoke with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan about how he is fitting in with the 49ers. “I thought I got more comfortable with the system throughout camp,” said Darnold.

If Shanahan can make a rookie do wonders in his first season, then he can definitely help Darnold understand his ways. The 49ers will be facing their former player, Garoppolo, and the Raiders in the first week of the 2023 NFL season.
