“He’s the only good thing about this dumpster fire of a team” – Sam Howell gets lauded on social media for his ‘gutsy’ 388 yards performance in losing cause against the Bears

By all means, the Washington Commanders were favorites to win on Thursday. Quarterback Sam Howell‘s stellar season was tipped to continue. But a hungry Chicago Bears team took home all the points.
Howell has been a revelation this season, saving the capital franchises’ skin time and time again. His output even surprised head coach Ron Rivera. Despite dropping down to be drafted in the fifth round, he performed like a first-rounder. So much so that benching last year’s starter, Jacoby Brissett, appears to be the correct decision.
The Bears game was a litmus test, in all honesty. Chicago’s best were on a long losing streak and were fighting for a turnaround. They started well, taking a 17-point lead. Howell, to this point, was a mere spectator as Justin Fields and D.J. Moore ran riot. He only managed to gain 70 yards in the first half.
In the second, however, he went in all guns, balancing. A mini-revolution started off with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Logan Thomas. The lead was cut to 13 points at the end of the third quarter. Howell then brought the Commanders within 10 points of their opponents. But the Bears did not let in anymore and went on to add 10 of their own. The game eventually finished 20–40.
Even though the Commanders had to digest a L on the day, Sam Howell had performed admirably. Compared to Fields’ 15 completions from 29 for 282 yards and 4 touchdowns, Howell achieved 37 of 51 for 388 yards, 2 TDs, and an interception.
Social media lauds Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell’s performance against the Chicago Bears
After yesterday’s game, Sam Howell’s tally in five games is 131 pass completions from 191 for 1349 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions. He is also a prolific rusher. Whenever there’s an opening, he takes it with good results. Last night, the North Carolina alumnus was a ball carrier for Washington with 4 carries for 19 yards at an average of 4.8 yards per attempt. Overall, he rushed 15 times for 101 yards and even scored a touchdown in the 2023 season.
With such amazing performances, the Commanders fans believe that Sam Howell has done a great job. They are sticking by the second-year quarterback.
As everyone pointed out, the Commanders’ defense is a problem. Especially the offensive line, which behaves like a swish cheese. For that reason, Howell has suffered a lot, being sacked 29 times. Even the Bears, who only had two sacks collectively all season, recorded six in just two hours of play.
