In a thrilling contest, the Cincinnati Bengals edged past the Baltimore Ravens by the barest of margins to score a 24-17 win in the wildcard playoff game on Sunday night. Joe Burrow’s Bengals were the favorites to win the game, but despite missing their starting QB Lamar Jackson, the Ravens gave a very tough fight to the home team and almost forced OT.
In the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 17-17 and Ravens QB Tyler Huntley was executing a perfect drive for a potential touchdown. Just a few yards away in the endzone, the Ravens tried to rush for the touchdown but to their dismay, this move resulted in a fumble, and local Cincinnati native and Bengals DE Sam Hubbard caught the ball and fan it all the way to the opposite end for a brilliant 98-yard touchdown.
This was the longest fumble return in postseason history and also proved to be the difference between the two sides in the end. Just a yard short of scoring a touchdown, the Ravens’ worst nightmare came true as LB Logan Wilson fumbled the ball and it went free at the two-yard line only to be caught by Sam Hubbard. The local man ran with the ball with no one in front of him. Four of Hubbard’s teammates also ran at top speed behind him to watch his back as TE Mark Andrews attempted to tackle him.

The Cincinnati fans in the stadium and on social media went wild after Hubbard sneaked the ball and scored the game-winning touchdown. Fans hailed him and also mocked LB Logan Wilson for his attempted tackle on Hubbard during his run. Many proclaimed that this will go down as one of the best moments in this season’s playoffs considering the context in which it came.
The Bengals led by Joe Burrow will now face the Buffalo Bills in the divisional playoffs on Sunday night. While the Bills were one of the favorites to win the AFC Championship after the regular season, their performance in the wildcard round was pretty average and thus, the Bills vs Bengals game is wide open right now. The winner will face the winner of the game between the Chiefs and the Jaguars.
