Deebo Samuel is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. He didn’t get there by lacking the hunger and competitive spirit. The Conference championship round matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions was nothing short of a thriller. In the first half of the game, the momentum was in the favor of the Lions as the Detroit-based team had a 17-point lead.

But the tides turned quickly in the second half as the 49ers managed to overcome the deficit and outscore their opponents 34-31. The team’s CEO Jed York revealed that one player was determined to cut through the deficit and it was none other than Deebo Samuel. York revealed via Up & Adams show that the wideout made an appeal to GM John Lynch at halftime.

...Lynch went down to the locker room at halftime, and tense halftime, right? You're down by 17 points, and he said Deebo was just sitting there, just shaken. He's like, 'Just tell Kyle to get me the damn ball.

All the wideout needed at that point was for HC Kyle Shanahan to draw up plays which would put the ball in his hands.

This incident spoke volumes about who Deebo Samuel is as a person to Jed York and John Lynch, the CEO went on to add,

I mean, that's who Deebo is. He's just ready to take over a game at any point. And I'm very, very glad that he is on our football club.

His performance in the second half spoke for itself as the wide receiver got the bulk of his stats at that point. He had six catches for 68 yards and was instrumental in helping his team go 27-7 in the second half. The San Francisco 49ers do not have just talent on their offensive roster but they have athletes with the right mindset.

No matter how large a deficit, the 49ers did not panic and managed to chip away at the lead on a play by play basis.

With just days left for Super Bowl 58, the team is more determined than ever to win this rematch. In Samuel’s rookie year, the 49ers went to the Super Bowl but lost to the Chiefs 31-20. This time, with a new QB at the helm, the 49ers will play with the hopes of a different outcome.
