The former New England Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel recently took issue with the New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner being listed as the number two cornerback in the league. Samuel took issue with rankings voted by the NFL executives, scouts, players, and coaches. And now the Jets CB has clapped back with a brutal reply.
“Damnn you been on my one shit hella lately [three laughing emojis] You gots to relax…. Me personally, I never been the hating type,” wrote Sauce Gardner while quote tweeting Asante Samuel’s tweet.
However, Samuel refused to back down and doubled down on his comments. “Why I got relax pimp! This is what I do, go do your homework before you step into this [three fire emojis],” replied Samuel to Gardner.
The former Patriots cornerback diminished Gardner’s talent by claiming, “The New York media will take your career to another level.” Samuel implied that Gardner is being hyped beyond his accomplishments by the New York media. His unnecessary jab at the Jets’ Pro Bowler has upset a lot of people, including the Jets legend Darrelle Revis, who called out the 4-time Pro Bowl CB.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer Revis tweeted at Samuel and told him to “quit being a hater when it comes to young rising stars @ the cornerback position. be mad @ the voters who never considered you shutdown.”
Sauce Gardner came in second in the list of best lockdown corners in the league voted by players, coaches, and executives. The Denver Broncos CB Patrick Surtain II was named the best cornerback in the league. Samuel’s son, Asante Samuel Jr. who is currently playing as a cornerback for the Los Angeles Chargers, failed to make it into the top 10.

Can Sauce Gardner top his remarkable rookie season?
The Jets selected the Cincinnati product Sauce Gardner with their 4th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He turned out to be arguably the best player from the draft class in the 2022 season.
Gardner had a masterful campaign in 2022 which led to him receiving a Pro Bowl nod, a first-team All-Pro recognition. Furthermore, he also ended up winning the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year honors. He became the first cornerback to receive an All-Pro nod in the last 40 years.
The Jets cornerback is now looking to top his rookie campaign. Gardner led the league in passes deflected (20) last season. If he can turn some of those into interceptions, he will surely become the top defensive back of the league in 2023.
