As the 2023 NFL season draws closer, every football player and fan is hoping their team can play in the Super Bowl. Ahmed ‘Sauce’ Gardner is no different, as he shares the same sentiment as the rest. His hopes have skyrocketed after his team, the New York Jets, signed Aaron Rodgers.
“I want to win a Super Bowl,” Gardner said while talking with The Detroit News. He wants to be the best teammate for Aaron Rodgers so the veteran quarterback can get the best out of him on the field. “I just want to be the best teammate I can be to help my team win.”
The 22-year-old’s admiration for the former Packer is no secret, as he was publicly pushing for the Jets to sign him. Gardner’s wish came true as Rodgers agreed to come to the Big Apple and is looking shredded in the training camps. This proves the 39-year-old is serious about pushing for another Super Bowl, and Gardner wants to help in whatever way he can.
“I’m built for this,” the 2020 NFL Rookie of the Year claimed. Sauce Gardner revealed that he and Aaron Rodgers had a “one-on-one moment” during dinner and assessed their strengths and weaknesses. He said, “he’s (Aaron Rodgers) got the secret gems that he can just give me.” It meant a lot to Gardner, as he wasn’t expecting Rodgers to be so open to helping him get better.
Sauce Gardner aims to give something back to the community
Recently, the cornerback was attending the Sauce Gardner Family Foundation Football Camp in Detroit, where he could be seen in a light mood. Detroit is his hometown, and he wants to teach the local kids what he has learned.
Gardner said most of the local kids “don’t have father figures in their lives. These kids need some guidance.” Then he recalled that he did not have the same opportunities as them when he was growing up.
His aim is to hold the camp every year if possible so that he can watch over them while they grow up. “I want to do it every year,” Gardner revealed. “There are a lot of reasons why these camps will be beneficial for the kids and the parents.”
Sauce Gardner’s aim and intention are noble. He is entering his second season as a Jets player and will be looking to do even better than last year when he made 75 tackles (51 solo and 24 combined).
