On Sunday, the New York Jets, led by their former second overall pick Zach Wilson, will take on the defending NFC Champions Philadelphia Eagles in their week 6 matchup. Ahead of the game, the Jets ruled out their star defensive back Sauce Gardner due to a concussion. Amidst this, the Pro Bowl CB claims that he feels perfectly fine even after his team ruled him out for the game on Sunday.

“I feel perfectly fine. That’s the crazy part about it,” wrote Gardner on the social media platform X after the New York-based football team ruled him out for their week 6 game against the Eagles.

Gardner’s post has sparked controversy on social media, but some acknowledged that the Jets might not want to take a risk playing a concussed Gardner against the Eagles. The young and talented CB did not practice on Friday and was on the injury report with what the team termed an “illness.” He practiced on Wednesday and Thursday, but wasn’t on the field on Friday.

The Jets head coach Robert Saleh expected Gardner to get fit ahead of their crucial game against the Philadelphia-based football team, but on Saturday, the team ruled out the All-Pro cornerback with a concussion. Along with Gardner, the Jets also ruled out one of their other starter cornerbacks, D.J. Reed. As a result, the Jets are now very thin on their secondary and it could be a big advantage for the Eagles, who have premium offensive weapons on their roster.

It should be noted the Jets also lost one of their top players in the offensive unit Alijah Vera-Tucker earlier this week due to a season-ending Achilles injury. The injuries are mounting in New York as Robert Saleh and his team are looking to make it to the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.

Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner faces sophomore slump

The NY Jets hit the jackpot last year when they drafted CB Sauce Gardner and WR Garrett Wilson in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Gardner and Wilson ended up winning the 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year award and Offensive Rookie of the Year award respectively.

However, they both haven’t made a difference for the Jets in the ongoing season so far. Gardner especially faced a sophomore slump early in the season, but he has improved a lot in the last few games.

And now, he will miss the Jets’ week 6 game against the Eagles on Sunday due to a concussion. When he returns to the Jets squad, he will look to make a big impact in the second half of the season.
