With Aaron Rodgers joining the New York Jets as of Monday, everyone in the league has started hedging their bets on whether or not the 4x NFL MVP will lead the team to the Super Bowl. According to Caesars Sportsbook, the odds of the Jets winning the Lombardi Trophy are +1400, which is sixth best in the league behind defending champions Kansas City Chiefs (+600), San Francisco 49ers (+700), Philadelphia Eagles (+850) and Buffalo Bills (+850).

However, former Detroit Lions quarterback Scott Mitchell doesn’t agree with those odds and believes the NY Jets will continue their 12-year playoff drought even with Aaron Rodgers under center. On his podcast “Unrivaled,” Mitchell sat down with co-host Alex Kirry and said the chances of New York being the Super Bowl champs are as bleak as 12%.

“I don’t believe he will get [the Jets] to the Super Bowl,” Mitchell said. “Aaron Rodgers may be overrated and washed up. He’s going to get washed up with the Jets.”

Rodgers has shown hints of deteriorating performance over the years, but let’s not forget that he won back-to-back MVPs in 2020 and 2021, which tells a lot about whether he is done. Rodgers stated his desire to play for the Jets in February, so perhaps he’ll give it his best and lead them to the Super Bowl like Tom Brady did in his first year with the Buccaneers.

Aaron Rodgers played for the Green Bay Packers for 15 years, and during his tenure, he spearheaded them to a lot of division titles, NFC Championship games, and the No.1 seed in the NFC. However, the former first-round pick has led the franchise to the Super Bowl just once, back in 2011.

The Packers played Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburgh Steelers and emerged victorious 31-25. Aaron Rodgers was awarded the Super Bowl MVP for his performance. He completed 62 percent of his passes and threw for 304 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Since then, the 39-year-old has failed to lead Packers back to the Super Bowl. He has come close on many occasions but failed in the final few moments, which has been a topic of discussion for analysts and fans. Many have questioned his legacy because of his poor postseason performance year after year. For this exact reason, Scott Mitchell is of the opinion that despite adding weapons on both sides of the scrimmage line, the Jets won’t make it to the Super Bowl.
