Head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Pete Carroll, recently spoke about his team making it to the playoffs. The Seahawks defeated the Rams in week 18 and made it to the playoffs after the Lions defeated the Packers in a close contest. They finished second in the NFC West division with a 9-8 record and will face the mighty 49ers in the wildcard round.
Carroll expressed his love and gratitude towards the Lions for beating the Packers and lauded Lions HC Dan Campbell for leading the team very well. He thanked the Lions for giving them a chance but cheekily mentioned that unfortunately, they’re playing the San Francisco 49ers in the wildcard round this week. Caroll said the 49ers are on a roll and are ‘as hot as’ they could be.
“Love the Lions,” Carroll told the media. “Coach [Dan] Campbell did a great job with his crew and they played a fantastic football game to get the win to give us a chance, so we’re going to try to do something with it. Unfortunately, we’re playing the Niners. And they’re loaded and healthy and on a roll, and about as hot as you can possibly get.”
He mentioned that 49ers’ young QB, Brock Purdy, is doing well and with the team’s strong offense, the Seahawks will be on their toes when they face San Francisco. “And [they’re] doing it in a really commanding fashion too with a young quarterback who’s doing so well. So we’ll see how we get our guys back for this weekend, it’s coming up quick with a Saturday ball game. We’ve already started our week and we’re underway,” he added.

It is very odd for a HC to praise its opponent so highly with the playoff game just a few days away. Here, Pete Carroll openly expressed his disappointment in his team facing the 49ers and, in a way, showed white flags to them even before competing. Fans speculated that the coach is bluffing and definitely has something under his sleeves which he’s hiding. They smelled a possible upset on cards as the 49ers are huge favorites to beat the Seahawks.
The Seahawks will take on the 49ers in the first playoff game of the season. While the 49ers are favorite to move into the divisional round, one can’t rule out Pete Carroll and Geno Smith for Seattle.
