“It’s a CRIME that he isn’t a head coach”: Sean McVay is baffled to see Raheem Morris not being considered for the head coach’s job by any of the NFL teams

Raheem Morris and Sean McVay

Raheem Morris is a well-known entity in the world of American football. The supremely talented coach who now plies his trade as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams previously served as head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011.

Moreover, Morris served as the interim head coach for the Atlanta Falcons back in 2020 and was an assistant coach for the Falcons, Washington Redskins, and the Buccaneers as well. That’s quite a resume one would say.

After such incredible credentials, it is tough to believe that even someone like him is not in contention to be even considered a viable option for the position of a head coach for any of the NFL’s franchises. Recently, Rams coach Sean McVay expressed his opinion on Morris not being considered for the head coach’s position.

It’s a reflection of how far we have to go, because he’s one of the best coaches in the world, and the fact that he isn’t a head coach is a crime,” McVay said, as reported by Greg Beacham of the Associated Press. Looking at the kind of experience Morris has, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Sean’s assessment does make a lot of sense.

Sean’s take on Morris comes at a time when the NFL is already under the scanner for racial discrimination when it comes to appointing head coaches. The Brian Flores lawsuit has garnered a lot of attention and the conversation around racism in the NFL’s hiring process has taken center stage once again.

It will be interesting to observe if we get to see any major changes in the way NFL franchisees hire the support staff in the time to come.
