Serena Williams’ husband hails the NFL for hosting first ever Christmas Day triple-header and BOLDLY predicts the end of the NBA’s monopoly on the holiday season
Alexis Ohanian
Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian recently took to social media to share his views on the NFL hosting its first-ever Christmas Day triple-header. On Sunday, the NFL experimented with three games- the Green Bay Packers against the Miami Dolphins, the Los Angeles Rams against the Denver Broncos, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers locking horns against the Arizona Cardinals in SNF. This is the first time that three games are scheduled for December 25 in the league’s history.
For a very long time, the NBA is the primary sport in the US for the holiday season and the NFL has tried to challenge it this year. Ohanian, who is a part-time owner of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team, Angel City FC, spoke on the matter and took the NFL’s decision to challenge the NBA as a positive move for their future.
He called the move ‘bold’ as they went against the flow to challenge the NBA and said that during this time of the year, the NFL games matter a lot more than the NBA games. “NBA always had Christmas Eve/Day on lock. Bold move by the NFL to show up and say they want some of that gravy, especially ruthless because this time of year, the NFL games matter a lot more in the season than the NBA games. Where’s your attention?” Ohanian tweeted.
Further, Ohanian predicted that the NFL is going to continue this in the coming years with better marketing and better match-ups. “Prediction: over the next few years, the NFL is gonna stack this new Christmas Day Triple-Header with more marketing, better match-ups, etc,” he added.

Many argued that Christmas incidentally fell on Sunday this year and hence the NFL didn’t go out of their ways, but Ohanian clarified that the NFL already had plans in mind and hence opted for a triple-header after the success of last year’s doubleheader.
Giving his two cents about why the NFL never decided to opt for multiple headers during Christmas, Ohanian pointed out that it is a mere scheduling problem stating that the idea of the NFL International Series. “There’s gonna be a London team in the next few years, I just think they see it as a mere scheduling problem and would flex around it,” Ohanian tweeted.
As far as the results are considered on Christmas, the Packers stunned the Dolphins; the Rams thrashed the Broncos, and the Bucs got the better of the Cardinals.
