Patrick Mahomes is the man to be right now!

No one in the history of football has had a better start to their career than Patrick Mahomes. Within six years, the Chiefs quarterback has won 2x Super Bowls, 2x league MVPs, 2x Super Bowl MVPs, and has led the team to 5 straight championship games. The Texas Tech alum also signed a 10-year $450 million contract extension, making it one of the biggest deals in sports history.

During the Super Bowl matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, he rallied a 10-point comeback in a spectacular second half. He finished the night with 21 completions for 182 yards and three touchdowns, which earned him his second Super Bowl MVP. The young quarterback is already being discussed in the same breath as the greats of the games – Tom Brady and Joe Montana. Mahomes is just into his sixth year in the league and has roughly 13 more years left to play. Wonder how many championships he wins!

Since Kansas City won its third Super Bowl, everyone has been talking about Patrick Mahomes and what his legacy will look like. The Chiefs already made it to three Super Bowls in the last six years and of the remaining three, two were won by Tom Brady and one by the Los Angeles Rams. UNDISPUTED hosts Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless discussed whether the Chiefs could’ve made it to the last six Super Bowls with Mahomes under the center.

Shannon Sharpe started off by saying that the Chiefs could’ve made it to Super Bowl LIII had they won the overtime coin toss against the New England Patriots. The 2018 AFC Championship game at Arrowhead was a treat to watch as it was played between the GOAT and Baby GOAT. The game was neck-to-neck and ultimately tied 31-31 at the end of regulation. In OT, the Patriots won the toss and scored the winning touchdown to advance to the Super Bowl. “I believe that had they [Chiefs] gotten the ball first, that would’ve been his [Mahomes’] first Super Bowl,” Shannon said.

Kansas City could’ve made the Super Bowl last year as well if they hadn’t blown their lead against the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game. Shannon added, “I would go five out of six. I’m not gonna go six for six, but five out of six make a very compelling argument.” Patrick Mahomes spent his rookie season as a backup to Alex Smith but since 2018 he has made every AFC Championship game so it’s not far-fetched to imagine that he could’ve led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl five out of the last six editions.

“I don’t believe Patrick Mahomes has set one foot in his prime. Let that sink in for a second. He hasn’t even gotten to his prime yet. Let’s say Andy [Reid] coaches till he is 70, which is another six years. Is it far-fetched to think he could win another three Super Bowls?” Shannon said. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady didn’t win their first league MVP until they were in their 30s and Mahomes has already won two. This speaks volumes of the kind of quarterback he is and what he is capable of doing.

Looks like within the next six years, Mahomes will have had a total of five Super Bowl rings and can easily break Tom Brady’s record. It’ll be interesting to see it all unfold right in front of our eyes. What a time to be alive!
