113M people watched the Super Bowl and not one person would disagree that Jalen Hurts played better than Patrick Mahomes that night. Granted that the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in the end but Mahomes shouldn’t have been given the Super Bowl MVP because his stats weren’t anywhere close to that of the Eagles’ quarterback.
Mahomes had 21 completions for 182 yards and 3 touchdowns while Hurts threw 27 passes for 304 yards and 1 touchdown. But that’s not all, he was like a scarlet speedster on his feet as he rushed for 70 yards, which was more than his running back core, on 15 carries and scored 3 touchdowns. Aside from the one fumble, Jalen Hurts had a Super Bowl MVP-worthy performance.
Hurts had an answer for everything on Sunday night and performed when his team required that of him. But in the end, it didn’t matter because of the controversial call that ended up deciding the game for both teams. Still, Hurts proved that he is a reliable guy that can lead a franchise and will definitely win a Super Bowl in his career.
Jalen Hurts has one year left on his rookie contract
Jalen Hurts was selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. With the exceptional season he has had which included a Super Bowl run but came up short, the market value of Hurt has skyrocketed. Analysts around the league are predicting that he will receive north of $45 million per year as the Eagles are looking to lock him up for the next 5-10 years this offseason.
UNDISPUTED co-host Shannon Sharpe reflected on Jalen Hurts’ latest interview where he was asked about the contract extension and he said he was oblivious to any talks of a long-term extension. “He is saying all the right things that should be commended but stop it Jalen,” Shannon said. “The Eagles and Jalen Hurts representatives already been talking. The framework is already in place.”
Shannon added that Philly’s owner Jeffrey Lurie has said that money is not an issue for him and that Jalen Hurts is everything the franchise needs in a quarterback. He also said that the Eagles will get creative with their 18 free agents but will definitely pay the big bucks to the 24-year-old signal-caller. “Jalen Hurts gonna be somewhere $48-50 million a year,” Sharpe said.
It is true that the Eagles will definitely pay Hurts more than $45 million but that might also mean that he won’t be able to sign some of their free agents and might have to rebuild the team around Hurts’ contract. It might take them a year or so but in the long run, they will most definitely be a playoff contender every year if Hurts is kept on the roster. Let’s see what kind of deal Philadelphia signs with the young and rising star!
