Shannon Sharpe is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for a reason. He is considered by many as the greatest tight end of all time. Sharpe was the first tight end to accumulate 10,000 receiving yards. He played most of his career in Denver and won two Super Bowls with the Broncos. If there is a Mt. Rushmore of tight ends, Sharpe will be there.
However, he doesn’t think of himself as Mt. Rushmore-worthy TE. In the podcast New Heights, hosted by Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, Sharpe was asked about his Mt. Rushmore for TEs. While naming the four best tight ends of all time, Sharpe left himself out and named Travis Kelce, Rob Gronkowski, Kellen Winslow Sr. and Antonio Gates.
When asked why he didn’t put himself on the list, Sharpe said “Nah I’m good. I did what I did. I put it like this, and I mean no disrespect to anybody, I ain’t trading my career with anybody’s. I know there’s no question in my mind, in my 14 years, I got everything out of my god given ability. So that’s all I could ask.”
Sharpe became an NFL analyst post-retirement and co-hosted the FS1 show Skip and Shannon: Undisputed with Skip Bayless from 2016 to 2023. It was announced on May 31st of this year that Sharpe will be leaving Undisputed. There are rumors of him joining First Take on ESPN.
Shannon Sharpe to debate Stephen A Smith on ESPN’s First Take
After 7 years of co-hosting the debate show Skip and Shannon: Undisputed, Shannon Sharpe left the show earlier this year. It was announced by the end of May that he and Fox Sports reached a buyout agreement. Sharpe co-hosted Undisputed with Skip Bayless.
Now the rumors are that Sharpe will join ESPN’s show First Take and will be seen debating the lead of that show Stephen A Smith. The rumors are picking up steam as a lot of major publications have already confirmed that this is happening. Smith addressed these rumors on his The Stephen A Smith Show recently.
Smith acknowledged that it is something that he wants and that Sharpe will be a great asset for the show. Sharpe played in the NFL for 14 seasons and won three Super Bowls. He is considered to be one of the greatest TEs of all time and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
