Shannon Sharpe and Stephen A. Smith appeared together for the first time on ESPN’s First Take this morning. Sharpe previously worked with Skip Bayless on Fox Sports’ show Undisputed. After seven years of working together, Sharpe and Bayless had a fallout, and the former left the network. Shannon Sharpe switched sides to work with Smith on ESPN.

There existed a lot of hype around Sharpe and Smith working together. Smith even appeared on Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast recently. As today’s show commenced, Sharpe accidentally called Smith ‘Skip’ a couple of times. Talk about fumbling on your first day at work! It seems like Sharpe isn’t used to his new surroundings yet. Seven years debating one person can do that to a human being.

In the episode, Sharpe referred to Smith as Skip and quickly realized his mistake. He corrected himself instantly, and Smith remained supportive of the former NFL TE. Smith acknowledged Sharpe’s mistake and told him it was okay, and asked him to continue.

Sharpe’s podcast was part of the Fox Sports network when he worked there. He recently agreed to a deal with Colin Cowherd and will now have his podcast on Cowherd’s podcasting network, The Volume. Sharpe was a former NFL player considered one of the greatest TE’s of all time. He won three Super Bowls and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe will work together on ESPN after Sharpe left Fox Sports. During his time with Fox Sports, Sharpe worked with another analyst, Skip Bayless. They co-hosted the show Skip and Shannon: Undisputed. Smith has also worked with Bayless before on First Take.

While appearing on Sharpe’s podcast, Club Shay Shay, Smith, and Sharpe opened up about working with Bayless. During the podcast, Sharpe talked about his time on Undisputed and said, “It’s not often that someone can give you that opportunity. And I’ve said this several times. I cannot let six months ruin six and a half good years.” Sharpe spoke highly of Bayless and did not appear bitter about him.

Sharpe and Bayless started working together on Undisputed in 2016. After successfully doing the show for seven years, they had a fallout, and Sharpe announced that he would leave Undisputed after the 2023 NBA Finals. Since then, he has joined Stephen A. Smith on ESPN. On the other hand, Bayless has welcomed new guests on the Undisputed show Richard Sherman, Keyshawn Johnson, and Michael Irvin.
