Shannon Sharpe is a massive name in the football world. He is a Pro Football Hall of Fame and is widely considered to be the greatest player at his position in NFL history. However, there are always bigger celebrities around. One such personality who is hugely popular all around the world is pop star Selena Gomez.
During an interview earlier this week, Sharpe was asked about the USA team’s run at the FIBA world cup outside Giorgio Baldi when, out of nowhere, Gomez appeared behind him. The cameraman immediately shifted his focus on the singer and actress, hilariously snubbing Sharpe mid interview. Sharpe stood awkwardly as the paparazzi followed Gomez to her car.
The entire video went viral on social media and fans had a great time with it. Some fans said that the paparazzi did Sharpe dirty by snubbing him. Sharpe, to his credit, took the entire situation like a champ and even tweeted about it later, saying “Had I realized it was her. I ABSOLUTELY would’ve asked her 4 a pic,” adding a couple of laughing emojis.
Social media too had their own say on the situation. Check out some of the reactions below.
Fans also commended Sharpe’s handling of the entire situation and showed their appreciation to Sharpe’s tweet.
Sharpe played in the NFL for 14 seasons. He won three Super Bowls and was an eight time Pro-Bowler. Since retiring from football, Sharpe has transitioned to television as he became an NFL analyst. He started working with ESPN this year, after spending seven years with Fox Sports.
Shannon Sharpe opened up about the reason for his departure from Undisputed
Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless debated each other for seven years on ‘Undisputed’. The Fox Sports show was one of the most popular sports shows in the world during that time. However, Sharpe left the network this year due to differences between the two. He joined Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s First Take.
Sharpe opened up about his departure from Undisputed on The Stephen A. Smith Show. He and Bayless got into an argument with each other regarding former NFL quarterback Tom Brady, which quickly became personal after Bayless said that Brady was ‘way better player’ than Sharpe.
Sharpe talked about it with Smith. “A lot of that is my fault, Because there were times that led up to that, that I felt that shots were taken and I let it go. And he felt that he could go over the top in that situation,” he said. “Because I felt in that moment he [Skip Bayless] had lost all respect for me, he had no respect for me. This is Undisputed, Skip and Shannon, this is not yours. So it really, really hurt me.”
Sharpe’s transition to ESPN and First Take hasn’t been smooth as he called Smith by Bayless’ first name a couple of time on air. However, it looks like the pair will be great together in the future. Sharpe will appear on the show on Mondays and Tuesdays during the NFL season.
