Sunday night was an unfortunate night for the Philadelphia Eagles, who lost the game just because they didn’t have the last possession of the game. Had it been them instead of the Chiefs, the story would’ve been entirely different and the Empire State Building would be lit green and white to honor their Super Bowl victory.

The Eagles were just as good, if not better than the Kansas City Chiefs. They were having a great game and had a 10-point lead as they went into the final 20 minutes of the game. But towards the end, the defense should’ve stepped up and stopped the Chiefs from converting on third downs, but they could not. During the entire game, Patrick Mahomes wasn’t sacked a single time by the defense that led the league in sacks (70). So, something definitely went wrong there.

Even the running game of the Eagles, which had 147.6 yards per game during the regular season, couldn’t get the momentum going and ended the night with 45 yards only. Even though Philadelphia wasn’t at its best on Sunday, they are a formidable unit and will continue to be a powerhouse in the NFC for years to come.

The Eagles can’t continue to dominate with the 49ers in the conference

UNDISPUTED co-host Shannon Sharpe discussed whether the Eagles will continue to dominate or not on the latest episode with his partner Skip Bayless. “I don’t know about the NFC but I know they gonna dominate the NFC East for years to come. They are built to last,” said Sharpe. Shannon said that the San Francisco 49ers are loaded on both offense and defense with elite players like Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Nick Bosa, and Fred Warner. So, with the 49ers being in the same conference, there is no way the Eagles continue to dominate each and every year.

The reason why quarterbacks are paid bucketloads of money is that in Super Bowls and playoff games, it always comes down to quarterback plays. It doesn’t matter if the defense is stacked and they make plays because a great defense cannot compensate for a mediocre quarterback. And that’s exactly why Shannon feels the Eagles are going to keep Jalen Hurts for the long haul.

“They gonna take care of him [Jalen Hurts],” Shannon said. “They gonna give him $50 million and not bat a eye. Skip the ain’t gonna go back and forth.” The Hall of Fame tight end further added that Hurts has done everything the Eagles have asked of him and he has been a model citizen on and off the field. The Eagles currently have 18 free agents on their roster, which will make their job that much more difficult because not all of them are going to come back.

Additionally, Philadelphia has two first-round picks at No.10 and No.31, which is a big plus for them. Now, the Eagles have a chance to build a team that will be a perennial Super Bowl contender. “The Eagles will be formidable because the thing that I love most about the Eagles is that quarterback. I know he gonna get back in the lab and I know he gonna get to work. He [Hurts] is what makes it work,” Shannon added.

The 2023 offseason will be an interesting one in Philly as they will probably rebuild the team from the ground up. One thing is for sure that they will also be a contender for the No.1 seed in the NFC. Let’s see if the Eagles can run it back next year or not.
