“That ain’t Kellen Moore’s fault!” Shannon Sharpe rains down hell on Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy for blaming former OC on their unsuccessful Super Bowl run
Mike McCarthy recently said that Kellen Moore should've run the ball more than throwing it in the air.

The Dallas Cowboys once again repeated the same cycle of getting the hopes of a generation’s worth of fans up by entering the playoffs but failing to reach the NFC Championship. It has been 28 years since the Cowboys made it to the conference championship game. The last time this happened, Troy Aikman was the quarterback and Dallas was ‘America’s Team.’
Every year, the management finds an individual to put all the blame on and this year; the Cowboys found that individual in Kellen Moore. Dallas fired Moore, who served as the offensive coordinator for four years. Despite doing a great job on offense in 2022 (putting raised Dak Prescott’s performance), Moore was fired, which shocked everyone in the league.
Furthermore, head coach Mike McCarthy dissed his former OC during a recent press conference. “I’ve been where Kellen has been: Kellen wants to light the scoreboard up,” McCarthy said during the NFL Combine. “But I want to run the damn ball so I can rest my defense. I don’t desire to be the No. 1 offense in the league. I want to be the No. 1 team in the league with a number of wins and a championship. And if we have to give up some production and take care of the ball better to get that, then that’s what we’ll do.”
Shannon Sharpe urges Mike McCarthy to look a little closer to home for failures
These comments from Mike McCarthy did not sit right with UNDISPUTED co-host Shannon Sharpe. He gave the Cowboys head coach a piece of his mind in the show’s latest episode and asked the veteran coach to find the root cause of the problem rather than firing great personnel. “You look at Cowboys defense and look at where they were ranked in sacks, pressures, and points allowed. That’s not a defense that wasn’t rested,” Shannon said.
“At some point in time just look to your right, Dak, that’s you. Skip, his defense gave up 19 points on the road. At some point of time, your quarterback missed five games, Mike McCarthy and he tied the league for interceptions with 15,” Shannon added. The Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end also said that given how Dak Prescott performed for the entirety of the 2022 season, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he had thrown a total of 20 interceptions if he played all 12 games.
Shannon added, “And they blame Kellen Moore. Can you believe they did Kellen Moore like that? The Cowboys were sixth in rush attempts, but 18th in yards per rush. That ain’t Kellen Moore’s fault!” Kellen Moore did an amazing job with Cooper Rush under center. While Prescott was on the sideline for the five games, Rush took over as quarterback and had the best start possible. He won four of his five games and, in the opinion of the majority of fans, played way better than Dak Prescott.
Shannon Sharpe blasted Mike McCarthy and told him to take a long and hard look at his quarterback before accusing everyone else on the team of their repeated failures. Dak Prescott has been the quarterback for the Cowboys for seven seasons now and has yet to deliver an NFC Championship game appearance, let alone the Super Bowl during his stint. Many analysts around the league have said time and again that the Cowboys should let go of Prescott because he isn’t a top-10 quarterback but owner Jerry Jones is adamant about holding on to Prescott.
Anyway, that was a cheap shot by McCarthy and now that Moore has been fired, let’s see how he transforms the offense in 2023. Fans will be closely monitoring the Cowboy’s offense and see how it fares compared to when Moore used to call the shots.
