The New York Giants got blown away by the Dallas Cowboys in their opening game on Sunday. A 40-0 drubbing by the Cowboys resulted in many questions surrounding the Giants’ offense and their QB Daniel Jones. He had a terrible night throwing for only 104 yards and two interceptions as the Giants offense struggled all night to put points on the pesky Dallas defense.

Former NFL player and current analyst Shannon Sharpe slammed Jones on the latest edition of the ESPN show First Take. He claimed the Giants made a mistake by giving him a 4-year $160 million contract. Sharpe criticized the Giants for overpaying Jones.

“I never bought into the Giants this offseason.” Sharpe said on the show. “I don’t care how much you paid Daniel Jones. He is what he is, and I think they overvalued him based on what he did in that playoff game against Minnesota [Vikings].” Sharpe further said Jones would struggle in the pocket without a running game for support.

The Giants reached the playoffs last season and even won their Wild Card game against the Minnesota Vikings. They could reach the playoffs this year as well, with a lot of great weapons on both sides of the ball. It will be interesting to see how Jones and the Giants will bounce back after this tough loss. They play their next game against the Arizona Cardinals on September 17.

The Dallas Cowboys destroyed the New York Giants on Sunday at the Met Life Stadium. The Giants’ offense failed to score any points on the night. The Cowboys sacked QB Daniel Jones seven times. The Giants also fumbled the ball five times in a very shambolic performance.

After the game, Jones expressed his frustration and disappointment with the loss. “We’re certainly frustrated and extremely disappointed with how we performed tonight,” Jones said in the post-game press conference. Jones remained critical of himself and promised to bounce back from the terrible performance.

Jones signed a massive contract extension this offseason. He reached a 4-year $160 million deal with the Giants that made a top-10 highest paid QB in the NFL. The Giants will hope that Jones lives up to that contract and guides them back to the playoffs this year.
