The New York Jets might want to curse the Miami Dolphins now. Two years back, the Jets were on the verge of signing star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. However, the Dolphins came into the scenario and made the WR their own. Hill then went on to have two remarkable seasons with the Dolphins.
Two years later, a similar situation has emerged. Shaquil Barrett, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker was in talks with the Jets. Barrett’s arrival in the Jets was almost sure but the Dolphins barged in to land him.
The Dolphins signed him at $9 million for a one-year deal. He is expected to provide stability to the Dolphins who have suffered much due to the defensive errors. In his interview with Zach Gelb on CBS Sports, the LB clearly explained his stance. He revealed that he was also linked to the Jets. However, as the Dolphins were in a much more stable position than them, the player decided to join them.
Here is what he had to say:
“My agent was talking to me about potentially going to New York, and it was New York all the way up until . . . the day I ended up agreeing to terms with the Dolphins. And they just came out of left field. I loved the prospect of going to New York, but Dolphins, like they’re just more established as a team. They’re more proven at this point.Shaq Barrett said
Shaq Barrett can provide the Dolphins stability in defense
In the last season, Barret was a dependable figure at the Bucs. He recorded 52 tackles, 4.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. He was also responsible for one interception.
The Dolphins suffered some major defensive problems last year. The team was often exposed in front of the opponent’s attacks. Especially the Bills, in the first game, tormented the Dolphins.
With the addition of Barrett, the Dolphins would like to see a change in the scenario this season. It is to be seen, how the linebacker plays in his new colors.
