So far, Shedeur Sanders has managed to handle whatever has been thrown in his direction in the first three games. But his steam ran out on Saturday night when Oregon State shut shop against the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback.
True to his lineage, Sanders started off the college football season with a bang, recording a 45-42 upset against last year’s national finalists, TCU. Then he followed it up with a three-touchdown win against Nebraska for 393 yards. But the most memorable victory came against the local rival, Colorado State, scoring a 98-yard dash for the endzone to win by 8 points in overtime.
But the true test of their eye-catching start was the Oregon Ducks, and in all honesty, they went into the game as underdogs. It showed as the No. 10-ranked team got off to a scintillating start and dominated proceedings. The Buffaloes were struggling to cope with the relentless pressure and were giving away cheap fouls. There were seven offensive penalties that cost CU more than 90 yards.
The gaping holes at the line of scrimmage continue to remain a problem. And Shedeur Sanders found that out the hard way. He was sacked seven times and lost 70 yards as a result. This means he had a negative carry percentage during the game, losing -34 yards with an average of -3.4 from 10 carries. Not the statistics a Heisman hopeful would want in his CV.

It was clear as daylight that Colorado’s offensive line was finding it difficult to cope with Oregon’s running backs, Mar’keise Irving and Jordan James, who put together 17 carries for more than 139 yards. Their primary job is to shut the rushers and runners out, which they failed time and time again, leading to Shedeur Sanders’ feeling the heat.

It’s no surprise that social media noticed the problem with the Colorado Buffaloes team. They were quick to point their fingers at the offensive line. Some even thought that head coach Deion Sanders not providing Shedeur with enough cover was bad judgment on his part.
After the game, Shedeur Sanders addressed what went wrong yesterday. “We just didn’t execute well,” he told the media. “Missed a couple of reads and can’t continue to take sacks like that. I was holding the ball too long.”
The Colorado Buffaloes, who had an average of 479 yards in the first three games, only gained 199 against Oregon State. Most of it came from a 93-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Notably, they were playing without star two-way player Travis Hunter, but that doesn’t undermine the performance of the Ducks.
