Shedeur Sanders channeled his inner Tom Brady on Saturday to win the game in overtime against the Colorado State Rams. It was quite the victory for the Colorado Buffaloes, as they increased their win count to 3 and sent a warning to the rest of their college football rivals.
Sanders was undeniably the hero and savior of the Buffaloes. His fourth-quarter heroics saved blushes for his dad and coach, Deion Sanders. The 21-year-old recovered 11 points to force the game into overtime. The highlight of the play was the 98-yard drive led by Sanders, which finished off with a 46-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Horn Jr. to tie the game at 28-28.
The Buffaloes only took 90 seconds and seven plays to get back into the game. It was astonishing considering how they had struggled throughout the second and third quarters. A lot of teams would have given up at this point, but the Buffs are led by Prime Time himself. He tweaked the plays slightly, which allowed his team to get forward quickly.
Once the game went into overtime, it felt like the crowd got behind the home team. It worked, as the players were riled up to go and win it. Shedeur Sanders once again proved why he is quickly becoming a Heisman candidate. He found Michael Harrison scoring touchdowns twice in either half to win the game 43-35.
After the match, Sanders spoke to the media, who asked how he managed to achieve the comeback. He replied that he had to go into Brady mode,”Brady mode. That’s it. Simple,” which is undeniably a shoutout to the legendary quarterback. “If [Brady] can do it, I know I can do it. We’re just alike,” he said. “They left too much time [on the clock] out there.”
Shedeur Sanders had the opportunity to learn from Tom Brady
While Deion Sanders never played against Tom Brady in his career, he always had respect for the seven-time Super Bowl winner. During his days as an analyst, he would often say that he would never bet against the former Patriots player because he always found a way to win. Perhaps this is the same lesson Shedeur Sanders learned when he received some private tips from the future Hall of Famer himself.
A video surfaced a while back, showing Shedeur busy with his throwing sessions. As the camera pans to the right, Brady can be seen praising the former Jackson State man.
The 46-year-old threw a few fast ones to demonstrate how to find players better. Shedeur tried to shadow the retired football player. That short session might have paid dividends against the Rams on Saturday.
Sanders’ first half wasn’t great, as he only managed 64 yards and recorded his first interception of the year. But he made amends in the latter half with 284 yards and three touchdowns. Next, he and the Buffaloes will travel to Oregon as they gear up to face the 13th-placed Ducks.
