The early exit of the Dallas Cowboys from the playoffs has shocked many people in the NFL world. Troy Aikman, one of the last quarterbacks to win a Super Bowl for the Cowboys, is among those. In an interview with the press at one of the events in Dallas, Aikman did not hide his astonishment regarding the early departure. He did not shy away from expressing that he did not book a vacation thinking that the Cowboys would make it to the NFC Championship. When the Cowboys failed to do it, he was shocked.
Aikman said when asked about the end of the Cowboys’ run:
Pretty shocked. My season [as a commentator] ended last weekend, with the divisional round. I’m free this weekend. I really anticipated that Dallas would be playing in the championship game. Figured it would be in San Francisco. So I was planning on going to the game. Didn’t book a vacation after my season.Troy Aikman said
Aikman was not the only one to think that the Cowboys would have a postseason different than their ‘earlier’ ventures. The form that the ‘America’s team’ showed on the gridiron compelled a lot of analysts to believe that the Cowboys would pass the Packers’ hurdle easily. Richard Sherman predicted that a feeble Packers defense could not do enough against a mammoth Cowboys offense. Even, ardent Cowboys hater Stephen A. Smith also considered that the Cowboys were the best team in the NFC.
Nonetheless, ‘Man proposes and God disposes.’ The Packers produced the biggest upset in the NFC as they shattered the hopes of the Cowboys. Dak Prescott choked once again as he threw two interceptions.
Troy Aikman had high hopes for the Cowboys despite the trail
The Cowboys had a very poor first half against the Green Bay Packers. Prescott threw two interceptions and the Packers secured a hefty lead in the first half. Aikman strongly believed that the Cowboys would turn the table in the second half.
Aikman said:
I thought the Cowboys would separate themselves in the second half, and it didn’t happen.Troy Aikman added
It was true that the Cowboys tried to come back in the game with late efforts. Prescott threw three touchdowns but that was not enough to seal the win. The Cowboys lost the game and had an early departure.
