“You’d still take Tom Brady,” Skip Bayless BACKS Bucs QB ahead of Patrick Mahomes in battle of the most clutch QBs in NFL

“You’d still take Tom Brady,” Skip Bayless BACKS Bucs QB ahead of Patrick Mahomes in battle of the most clutch QBs in NFL

Who is the most clutch player in the NFL? Brady or Mahomes?

Week 11’s Sunday Night football witnessed a thriller of a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers. Patrick Mahomes’ late long clutch drive saw the Chiefs come out on top within the dying minutes with a final score of 30-27.

With only a minute and 15 seconds of the 146 left on the clock, Mahomes created a magical pass for a touchdown for ages to remember. This incredible clutch play by Patrick Mahomes was bound to get the instant question rising in every football fan. Is Patrick Mahomes the league’s best-most clutch quarterback?

Not only the fans but NFL analysts too were seen instantly pouncing on this golden goose of a question. The famed duo of the Undisputed, Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe, too, had their own cents to add to this burning hot question.

While Shannon was quick to label the Chiefs QB as the ‘definition of the clutch’, Skip had a balancing answer to that. Skip still firmly believes in Tom Brady‘s ‘clutchness’.

While Patrick Mahomes is on the path to being one of the greatest, there’s certainly more time for that

Skip was firm on his stance in favoring the Bucs QB and asked the former tight end to be honest with himself about this question. To this Sharpe replied, “I’ll take Mahomes right now. Today, in 2022, I’ll take Patrick Mahomes.”

Skip was unfazed by that retort and again showed his firm belief in TB12 and had this to say to Sharpe: “As many good games as Mahomes has had… he’s had 2 where he threw game-ending interceptions–Game for your life, you’d still take Brady. I’d take Brady, and I’d live. He’s been doing it in shadows.”

This confident comment from Skip might have been the result of something that happened two weeks back. It was the same period when the ‘clutch’ debate took hold again in the league. And the culprit for this was Tom Brady himself, credit to his game against the Rams. Despite having a record of 4-5 (at that point), the Bucs came out winning in the last minutes because of their veteran QB.

The win was even helmed at a higher stature because of Tom Brady’s divorce finalization around the same week, and him displaying such play under all these mental barriers, the GOAT tag just received one more firm nail.

And speaking about Mahomes, yes, he is certainly the topmost contender currently for this season’s MVP, but the ‘clutch’ tag is a completely different ballgame. One point from this “most clutch player” debate that may go against him is that most of Mahomes’ “clutches” have come in the regular season.

Patrick Mahomes has had some clutches during his 1st post-season Superbowl run. But Brady has around six to seven Superbowl game-winning drives, with many, many other post-season clutch games. Yes, Mahomes is clutch, but we need to see more of that in the post-season games.
