Aaron Rodgers is a gift to the NFL world that just keeps on giving. He was ruled out for the season in week 1 after suffering an Achilles tear against the Buffalo Bills. Since then, he has been giving interviews to his good friend and ESPN analyst, Pat McAfee on The Pat McAfee Show. In his recent interview, Rodgers revealed that he asked the New York Jets to put him on IR, but the team “overruled” him and instead activated him to the 53-man roster.

That resulted in the cutting of Jets’ fullback Nick Bawden from the team. Although he was later signed to the practice squad, Rodgers received a lot of hate on social media for it. The former MVP clarified the situation with Bawden as well as on the show. However, Fox Sports analyst Skip Bayless ripped Rodgers for his comments about wanting to be on IR instead of the team.

Bayless said on the latest edition of the Fox Sports show, UNDISPUTED:

Aaron Rodgers is the all-time master media manipulator. He just pulled off becoming yearlong the most talked about, written about, debated about New York Jet, and he played four snaps this year. And he managed to keep himself in the center of attention week after week after week by dangling, teasing this little caveat of ‘I’m going to shatter the mold.

The Jets have been knocked out of the race for the playoffs this season and Rodgers has decided to heal his injury and not play the rest of the games. They will take on the Cleveland Browns in their next game on Thursday.

Aaron Rodgers claims that he asked the New York Jets to put him on IR

The New York Jets’ QB Aaron Rodgers was activated to the 53-man roster despite his request to be put on IR. As a result of that, fullback Nick Bawden was cut from the team and was later signed to the practice squad. The former Green Bay Packers’ QB received a lot of hate for this situation. However, Rodgers recently clarified that on the latest edition of The Pat McAfee Show.

Rodgers said on the show:

I assumed I was gonna go on IR. I asked to be put on IR. There was a conversation, 'Do you want to practice,' and I said, 'Not at the expense of somebody getting cut.'.. But obviously I got overruled there, maybe it is what it is. That was an interesting situation.

The Jets hold a record of 6-9 and are out of the playoff race. Rodgers is expected to assume quarterbacking duties for the team next season and will hope to lead them to the promise land.
