Skip Bayless has never been the one to withhold his strong opinions as an analyst, whether be it any player’s lack of performance or the team he has been supporting since the age of 10, he has always been an open book. This time, he has targeted the Minnesota Vikings star quarterback Kirk Cousins.
While talking about the quarterback’s ranking among the top overall free agents, sports analyst Bayless bluntly cleared that he is not a big fan of Cousins. He reasoned his stance, highlighting the QB’s performances in the playoffs.
To me, Kirk Cousins is way overrated at a position that remains in the National Football League understocked--There are not enough to go around - quality, playoff-caliber quarterbacks. Even though he is playoff-caliber, I'll give you that. He's been in good spots a couple of times where they got to the playoffs, but he flamed out. In the playoffs, he's 1-3.Bayless highlighted on the recent episode of Undisputed
Not only did the FS1 personality call Cousins overrated, but he also made a blunt remark on his salary, saying,
He is, to me, the most overpaid single player in the history of the National Football League.
Bayless emphasized Cousins’ career income so far, which is around $213 million– 4th most by an active NFL player.
Kirk Cousins set to become a free agent as the Vikings fail to offer a satisfactory deal
As his contract with the Vikings is ending this coming March, Cousins is being counted among the top free-agent quarterback, who could be available for free agency. On the contrary, the Vikings have reflected in many ways their desire to keep Cousins, but upon a condition that it does not compromise their future spending limits.
Two years ago, the franchise signed a single-year extension contract with Cousins, in order to decrease his due cap for the 2022 season. There were chatters about a potential contract deal in the making, but nothing came out of these chatters.
This season, the quarterback suffered a season-ending Achilles injury quite early in the 2023 regular season that kept him benched throughout. Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah had stated that the Vikings are keeping all options open for Cousins to continue with them. However, as those aren’t up to the standard of Cousins, he is looking forward to entering free agency.
