The Cincinnati Bengals are finally back on the winning track. They beat the Los Angeles Rams in a low-scoring encounter of 19-16. The match included some amount of heroism, or ‘stupidity’ maybe, from their star quarterback Joe Burrow, who, despite suffering from injury, decided to play the game. His efforts were hailed by multiple analysts, and Skip Bayless is one of them.

In the recent episode of the popular football podcasting show ‘Undisputed’, the analyst said that Burrow did some stupid things as he played with a re-injured calf. His intentions were right, but the act was stupid.

To me, playing with the calf in the state he was in does not take toughness. It is not that painful, it is nagging. It was a stupidity to play with a calf like that. That was what he did. But he did it for the right reasons,” the analyst said.

The analyst also emphasized the characteristics that a good quarterback needs to have. Bayless shed light on the toughness of a quarterback and spoke about Tom Brady. He addressed that Brady, despite not looking like the toughest one off-field, provided great intensity on the ground.

Now let’s come to the quarterback’s toughness. It is hard to gauge because quarterbacks come with so many packages. That is what I have always said about Tom Brady. Off the field, he does not look like the toughest guy. He does not look like the most macho footballer. But he has had the most number of sacks since he played football till 45,” Bayless further added.

Injury has been a concern for Joe Burrow

Burrow has two battles to fight this season and both of them are related to one another. The QB sustained an injury in the team’s practice session and did not play in the preseason and training sessions. Nonetheless, the player came back to the NFL and started all the matches for the Cincinnati Bengals. The QB re-aggravated his calf in the second game and is yet to be recovered fully.

The second challenge is his form. He is far from being at his best. In three matches this season, the player only covered 563 passing yards and had two touchdowns. He was also intercepted twice. The player failed to have a touchdown in two of the three games this year.

The absence in the preseason caused a lack of chemistry between him and his teammates. He and the team, to some extent, are also suffering due to the lack of training.
