Among all the divisions across the league, the NFC South is known to be the most unprecedented. With 2-12 standings, the Carolina Panthers are already out of the competition, which leaves the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons in the race.
The Buccaneers are currently leading the division at 7-7, though their stats are very similar to those of the Saints. With the main competition among these two to win the title, sports analyst Skip Bayless sided with the Bucs.
The two are scheduled to face off against each other on New Year’s Eve, December 31. Coming off a 34-20 victory over the Green Bay Packers, Bayless praised quarterback Baker Mayfield and believes he could lead his team to win the divisional title.
What I saw yesterday was Baker Mayfield, who played like the 1st overall pick. He is capable of it and I know one Tampa Bay insider very well, and they drove home..drove into Baker's psyche before the year started, 'Just lived to fight another play, don't try to win the game in one throw. If it's not there, just check it down or throw it out of the bounds and let's try it again.' And Baker looks like he's grown up a little this year because he's playing a little more mature football than he has in the past.Said Bayless on Undisputed’s recent episode
Bayless believes that Mayfield has the required weapons, highlighting his four touchdown passes that he threw in the game against the Packers. The sports analyst also acknowledged the fact that New Orleans’ defense is better than the Bucs.
I'd still take Baker slightly over Derek Carr. It's a close call but if it's at Tampa and you got to make one play late in the game, I'm gonna take Baker. He further added
Baker Mayfield’s stats in the game against the Green Bay Packers
Quarterback Mayfield’s sensational performance against the Packers is the reason why Tampa Bay is atop the NFC South division. The team defeated Green Bay by a dominating 34-20 and claimed the top divisional spot.
Many believe Mayfield displayed his career-best performance on Sunday, as he completed 22 out of his 28 passes for 381 passing yards along with four touchdowns. This victory was a huge step for the Bucs in their goal of making it to the playoffs.
Not just that, Mayfield logged a phenomenal passer rating of 158.3 and established himself as the first visiting signal-caller to obtain this feat at Lambeau Field. With such fascinating stats, the veteran quarterback also didn’t log any interceptions.
