Lamar Jackson has been in the highlight since the past offseason for his contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens. Both parties have been unable to reach a middle ground in the contractual talks. The rumors of bad blood between the club and the QB caught fire when Jackson updated his Twitter profile to a picture of ‘I Need $.’
The former first-round pick is seeking a contract similar to Deshaun Watson‘s five-year $230 million fully guaranteed. This demand from Jackson further derailed the contract discussion.
After suffering a sprained PCL during the Week 13 game against the Denver Broncos, Jackson is yet to make his appearance. As per Adam Schefter, he will be missing the Wild Card matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals as well.

Lamar Jackson’s future in Baltimore remains uncertain
The recent reports of Jackson not leading the Baltimore Ravens in the postseason have led NFL pundits to believe that this might be the end of the Jackson era in Baltimore. While in a talk on Undisputed, Skip Bayless reacted to Ravens head coach John Harbaugh dismissing rumors about Jackson not playing in the postseason due to contract-related issues.
“This is a showdown. This is going to come down to a big ugly collision,” Skip said about the brewing tension in the Ravens camp. “They (Baltimore Ravens) started it because they wouldn’t finish a contractual negotiation. So, Lamar has quit on them because they quit on him first.”
Jackson was selected as the last pick of the first round by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2018 NFL draft. He got a break during his rookie year after quarterback Joe Flacco suffered an injury. He clinched the division in his first year and became the youngest quarterback in the league to appear in a playoff game at 21. In 2019, he had a breakout season and won the NFL MVP award for his exceptional performance throughout the season.
Jackson has reached the final year of his rookie contract and while he did expect the Ravens to offer an extension, with the back-and-forth happening for the past year, it looks like the deal might not come through. The star quarterback even walked on the field with a poster that read: “Ravens #8 pay ’em now!” during one of the games.
Looks like the Ravens are unwilling to pay $300 million guaranteed to a quarterback who has proven himself to be one of the best and can lead them to the Super Bowl someday. Let’s see what more drama unfolds this offseason.
