Skip Bayless says the Philadelphia Eagles were the better team on Sunday and they would've defeated the 49ers with or without rookie sensation Brock Purdy.

The NFC Championship game was touted to be a thriller and nail-biting encounter between two very physical teams – the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers. It was just a matter of who between these two would play better football and win a trip to the Super Bowl. And it was evident from the opening drive of the game that team was the Eagles.

Philadelphia’s offense just crushed through DeMeco Ryans‘ defense. Jalen Hurts wasn’t that efficient in his passing game as he ended the night with 15 completion for 121 yards and one touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith. The amazing one-handed catch by Smith was actually incomplete but the 49ers did not challenge the ruling on the field and the Eagles got away with one free touchdown.

Talking about San Francisco, it just wasn’t meant to be and it almost seemed like a Greek tragedy. Rising from ashes like a phoenix, third-string rookie quarterback Brock Purdy led the 8-4 49ers to the NFC Championship game without a single loss and it looked like he would wipe the floor with the Eagles. But as luck would have it, Purday suffered an elbow injury and was called off the field.

Undisputed co-host Skip Bayless had already called the outcome of the NFC Championship game and said that the Philadelphia Eagles would win just because they had a better quarterback. And he turned out to be 100 percent correct. “It wasn’t just the way it shook out yesterday because obviously the whole day got disqualified by the loss of Brock Purdy,” Skip said of the 49ers losing all of their quarterbacks on Sunday.

“The Eagles were just the better team. They were going to win with or without a healthy Brock Purdy. The Eagles have firepower in both trenches, their lines of scrimmage, their offensive line, and especially their defensive line,” Skip added. Shannon Sharpe also added that the Eagles’ offensive line had its way with the 49ers’ D-line. They were successful in neutralizing Nick Bosa, who is in contention to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.

All in all, the Eagles were better coached and they simply out-played the 49ers. One might argue that had Brock Purdy been under center then maybe fans would be looking at an entirely different outcome. But it wouldn’t have mattered because the Eagles’ defense would’ve eaten him alive as they did on the 49ers’ first drive of the game.

Brock Purdy has suffered a complete tear of UCL in his throwing arm and will undergo surgery and will be out for at least six months. He is trying to avoid getting surgery and is looking for other options to be ready for the training camp in the offseason to possibly become the starter for the 49ers.
