“Russell Wilson is burned out,” Skip Bayless makes a shocking claim on Broncos QB’s future in the NFL

Skip Bayless on Russell Wilson

For the better part of the last decade, Russell Wilson was one of the best quarterbacks in the National Football League and as he gears up for a new season as part of a franchise not named Seattle Seahawks for the first time in his career, many are questioning his worth. Wilson is a 9 time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion. Not bad for a 3rd round pick.

Wilson was traded by the Seattle Seahawks for a massive haul to the Denver Broncos which included two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-rounder and 3 players. Denver is hoping that Wilson can do what once upon a time Peyton Manning did for them, Tom Brady did for Tampa and Matthew Stafford did for the Rams last year. Many around the NFL don’t believe that Wilson is not the player that he once was.

Skip Bayless claims Russell Wilson took a beating in his prime

What sparked this debate is Wilson being ranked 61st in NFL Network’s annual top 100 players list a massive fall from no.12 last year and no.2 the year before. The ranking is based on ranking by those around the league. Skip Bayless while discussing Wilson’s ranking said-“Two years ago not only was he 2nd in the voting of the players for the best overall player he was a very close 2nd to Lamar. The plummet from 1A to 61st in the eyes of the players is precipitous, it is shocking.”

While his counterpart on the show Undisputed Shannon Sharpe, a former Bronco argued on Russell’s behalf. Skip Bayless was having none of it.

He continued-“Is it possible that Russell Wilson has left his prime because he took too many hits during his prime? He ran with the football too many times and he’s built short and stout. But he took a lot of punishment and he endured a lot of injuries, none of which actually cost him time until then. But you just took a beating,” he also added, “And I’m talking about body and psyche beating over a period of years. A lot of pressure in Seattle to be the face, the man of that franchise. Is it possible he’s just a little burned out on being that guy? Is it possible you’re getting, getting him past his prime? That’s what I think”

All the questions regarding Wilson and the massive price Broncos paid for him will soon be answered when the season starts.
