The Kansas City Chiefs have started their 2023 campaign in the worst way possible. The Chiefs led by their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a loss against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night. Mahomes’ favorite target Travis Kelce missed the game with a knee injury which had a major effect on the game. Following the Chiefs’ loss, Skip Bayless shared a controversial take that Mahomes is the Robin to Kelce’s Batman.
“Are we sure that the guy who was missing last night isn’t Batman? Are we sure he hasn’t helped make Patrick Mahomes,” said Skip Bayless in a recent episode of the Fox Sports show Undisputed.
Furthermore, the veteran NFL analyst Bayless went on to say that Kelce is the best pass-catching tight to ever play the sport and Mahomes has struggled without his ultimate security blanket.
“This is the man [Kelce] since Patrick Mahomes took over who has caught the second most balls in all of pro football. This is the man who is 6 feet 5 inches tall, this is the man, as great as Patrick Mahomes has been, who is the all-time ultimate security blanket in the history of football to me since we agree he is the best pass-catching tight end ever,” said Bayless.
Bayles further said that Mahomes struggled a lot in the game against the Lions without Travis Kelce by his side. Besides, he also claimed that Mahomes has gotten away with a lot of bad throws in his career because of his All-Pro tight end.
Patrick Mahomes’ receivers let him down in week 1
The Lions caused a major upset on Thursday night as they went into Arrowhead as road underdogs and defeated the defending Super Bowl champions. Mahomes did everything he could but was majorly let down by his receiving core.
The Chiefs’ receivers dropped approximately 8 of Mahomes’ passes which killed many drivers. Furthermore, Kadarius Toney, who was supposed to be the Chiefs’ number 1 receiver had one of the worst performances of his career.
Toney had 1 reception in the game for negative one yard and dropped multiple passes. Moreover, one of his dropped passes turned into a pick-six that helped the Lions erase a 7-point deficit in the 3rd quarter of the game.
Nonetheless, Mahomes and the Chiefs would like to move on from the disappointing loss and secure a victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who they are scheduled to face next weekend.
