The Baltimore Ravens made a splashy move in the off-season by signing the free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to a huge one-year deal worth up to $18 million which stunned many people around the league including the long-time NFL analyst Skip Bayless.
During a recent episode of the show UNDISPUTED on Fox Sports Network, Skip Bayless said that he was shocked by the Ravens paying massive money to a receiver coming off of a second ACL injury.
“Scale of 1-to-10, My shock level is at a 10 over this,” said Bayless about Odell Beckham Jr.’s new deal with the Ravens. “This is the kind of deal you get on the opening day of free agency when you’re not sure what’s out there and you just plunge. ‘We’ve gotta get Odell for Lamar [Jackson]‘ that was a long time ago.”
“I don’t know that anybody else was even in the ballpark of giving Odell Beckham Jr. $15 million guaranteed, are you kidding?” said Bayless. “Odell coming off not one but 2 complete ACL reconstructions in a short period of time at age 30, I thought, you know what, he should just go ahead and accept his fate and go to the Jets.“
The massive contract caught a lot of people by surprise and most of the experts around the league believe the Ravens did it to please their franchise quarterback, Lamar Jackson, who recently requested a trade from the Baltimore-based football team.
Skip Bayless boldly claims Odell Beckham Jr. addition won’t make Lamar Jackson happy
After the Ravens signed the 3-time Pro Bowl WR Odell Beckham Jr., QB Lamar Jackson face-timed him to welcome him to the team. Furthermore, just hours after the signing, the duo was spotted together at a nightclub.
It certainly seems like Jackson is happy about the Ravens’ move to add OBJ, but the long-time NFL analyst Skip Bayless doesn’t believe the former league MVP QB will not be amused by this move.
“In the end, will he make Lamar happier? That’s the key question here. And I’m going to say no because I still believe Lamar’s pride and principles are so extreme that the bridge got burned,” said Bayless. “I don’t think he’s going to be able to get over that because the non-exclusive tag is the non-exclusive tag. That’s not going to change unless you tell me that there was a deal on the table.”
Bayles believes Jackson should not be happy with the move since the Ravens are paying OBJ almost half of what they will be paying the quarterback. Beckham Jr.’s contract is worth up to $18 million with $15 million fully guaranteed and Lamar will get paid $32.4 million for the 2023 season since he will be playing under the non-exclusive franchise tag.
