The Miami Dolphins had a good run under first-year head coach Mike McDaniels. The Dolphins went 9-8 for the entire season and made it to the playoffs. However, they were ousted from the Super Bowl run in the wildcard round itself.

Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa played just 13 games and had an 8-5 record. Miami had no choice but to keep Tagovailoa on the sidelines because of the concussions he suffered. In the Week 3 game against the Bills, Tua suffered his first concussion and was taken in for an examination. However, he was cleared by the doctors to return to the game which led the NFLPA to launch an investigation and fire the medical staff involved in this grave error.

Tagovailoa then suffered his second concussion of the season on the Christmas Day game against the Packers. The following week, head coach McDaniels revealed that Tua had been ruled out for the rest of the season. The doctors did not clear him to play in the wildcard game which resulted in their loss to the Bills.

After suffering two of the worst concussions, Tua Tagovailoa revealed during a press conference that he contemplated retiring from football. He said, “Yeah, I think I considered it for a time, having sat down with my family, having sat down with my wife, and having those kinds of conversations. But, really, it would be hard for me to walk away from this game with how old I am, with my son.

“I always dreamed of playing as long as I could to where my son knew exactly what he was watching his dad do. It’s my health, it’s my body. I feel like this is what’s best for me and my family. I love the game of football, and if I didn’t, I would have quit a long time ago.”

He also added that doctors told him CTE wasn’t going to be a problem since he isn’t banging his head on every other play he makes. Tagovailoa also said that he talked with the Dolphins’ head athletic trainer and GM Chris Grier about his injuries and that he was willing to step up to the plate and deliver.

However, fans weren’t that impressed with him talking about hanging up his cleats and asked him to retire altogether. Here are some reactions of fans on Twitter.

Tua Tagovailoa ended his 2022 season with an 8-5 record and 3,548 yards for 5 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. This was his career-best season and if he would’ve played the entire season, he probably would’ve led the team a little further in the playoffs. Let’s just hope that he suffers no more concussions in the 2023 season or for the rest of his career!
