The Buffalo Bills have made a big move as they continue to push to win the AFC East division for the 4th year in a row. While the Bills had many needs, their general manager Brandon Beane has made a move to acquire a running back to further strengthen their offensive backfield. Beane has signed the veteran running back Leonard Fournette to the Bills’ practice squad.

According to his agents David Canter and Ness Mugrabi, Fournette passed a physical test on Monday and will start with the practice squad of the Buffalo-based football team. Fournette is expected to be elevated from the practice squad to the main roster soon and is expected to be the Bills’ number 2 running back behind James Cook.

Once elevated, Fournette will act as a power back and is expected to take goal-line snaps and short-yardage situations. Fournette is a great power back who can be used in rushing and receiving games. Besides, he is a great blocker who could pick up blitzes and protect his quarterback, Josh Allen.

This surprising move by the Bills comes just over a week after they placed Damien Harris on injured reserve due to a neck injury. Harris suffered the injury during the Bills’ week 6 game against the New York Giants and had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Now, Fournette is expected to fill his shoes.

Fournette is a 6-year veteran who spent his last 3 years in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Tom Brady‘s leading running back. In his first season with the Bucs back in 2020, he earned the nickname “Lombardi Lenny” or “Playoff Lenny” since he played a huge part in the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl run that season.

Since then, he became a solid asset in the Buccaneers’ backfield. Last season, he registered 1,191 scrimmage yards and 6 total touchdowns in the regular season. The Bucs signed him to a 3-year deal back in the 2022 off-season, but they released him back in February to save some cap space. He has been a free agent since and now has been scooped up by the Bills.

Social media reacts to the Bills signing Leonard Fournette

NFL fans on social media had mixed reactions to the Bills signing Leonard Fournette to their practice squad. While some Bills fans thought it was a good signing, others claimed that signing a 28-year-old washed running back is not the answer since the Bills have so many needs to be addressed on the defensive side of the game.

Nonetheless, Fournette has been just signed to the Bills practice squad. But he is expected to be elevated to the main roster soon. Once he is elevated, he is expected to play a huge role in the Bills’ playoff run in the ongoing NFL season.
