The San Francisco 49ers secured a win against the Seattle Seahawks in a dominating fashion. Furthermore, their rookie quarterback Brock Purdy had an impressive outing as he accumulated four total touchdowns against the Seahawks’ defense and became the first quarterback to register a win in his debut playoff game since 2012. The last player who achieved this feat was former Seahawks QB, Russell Wilson.
The 49ers’ mid-season accumulation Christian McCaffrey came up big in the all-important playoff game as he carried the rock 15 times for 119 rushing yards and also caught a pass for one touchdown. Furthermore, Deebo Samuel, who recently came back from an injury, had a monstrous game as he caught six passes for 133 yards and one touchdown and also averaged 10.7 yards per carry in the rushing game.
The gritty 49ers’ defense did its job as they managed to accumulate 3 sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery. Moreover, DeMeco Ryans‘ defense was putting pressure on Geno Smith all game long, but one particular hit on the Seahawks QB received massive criticism on social media. During the final seconds of the second quarter when the hosts were leading 16-14, Geno Smith took off with the ball to rush for some yards and went down sliding once he saw Niners DB Jimmie Ward closing in on him.
However, even after Geno gave up the run, the defensive back laid a helmet-to-helmet hit on the sliding Geno Smith. The hit resulted in a personal foul penalty, which put Seattle in field goal range with just a second left in the clock. The Seahawks converted the field goal and took a 17-16 lead at the halftime mark.
49ers DB Jimmie Ward gets blasted on social media for a late hit

Fans on social media did not like the late hit by Jimmie Ward. Especially after Geno made a questionable decision to run with the ball with just 8 seconds remaining on the clock.
If Ward didn’t force a penalty, the Seahawks would’ve been able to stop the clock, but would have been way out of range for a field goal. So they might have gone for a Hail-Mary attempt, which usually does not end well for the offense.
Instead, Ward’s unnecessary late hit gave Seahawks a 15-yard gain and put them in a comfortable range for a field goal attempt. Seahawks kicker Jason Myers converted the field goal and gave the visitors a one-point lead.
It didn’t matter in the end as the 49ers ended up winning the game 43-21 and advanced to the next round of the playoffs. They will now patiently wait to know who is going to be their opponent between three low seeded teams in the NFC: the Cowboys, the Buccaneers, and the Giants.
