Aaron Rodgers is expected to make his NFL debut next Saturday against the New York Giants. He will play a preseason game for the first time since 2018. The New York Jets acquired Rodgers this offseason from the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers playing against the Giants is not necessarily a bad move considering he needs reps to feel comfortable in a new system.
Some fans see it as a positive thing as Rodgers will understand the offense better before week 1, whereas there is a lot of negative sentiment as well around this news.
In a preseason game, there is always the risk of injury, and fans are concerned about starting their star quarterback in a meaningless preseason game. Rodgers did not play in the Jets’ previous three preseason games and this is his last chance to get some reps under his belt before the season officially kicks off in September.
This news generated a wide range of reactions on social media.
The Jets had a promising 2022 season even though they eventually finished with a losing record of 7-10. They have a young team with a lot of talent on both sides of the ball and with Rodgers quarterbacking the side, they will hope to improve and get into the playoffs this season. The Jets will open their season against the Buffalo Bills on September 12 in MetLife Stadium.
Aaron Rodgers doesn’t want it to be a ‘one-and-done’ thing in New York
Aaron Rodgers wants his association with the New York Jets to last longer than one season. The future Hall of Famer joined the Jets this offseason and is looking forward to playing a few years in the Big Apple. The four-time MVP will begin his 18th NFL season this year and will hope to take the young Jets team to the playoffs.
In a recent interview with Otis Livingston of CBS New York, Rodgers opened up about his desire to play a few years in New York and doesn’t want this to be a “one-and-done” season. “Why limit to one? I don’t plan on this being one-and-done,” Rodgers told Livingston.
Rodgers also said that he will happily hand off the reins to Zach Wilson once he retires and expects the young QB to play for a long time for the Jets. Rodgers is expected to make his New York Jets debut next Saturday against the New York Giants in the Jets’ final preseason game. They begin their season by hosting the Buffalo Bills in week 1.
